Artist Statement
These images were taken on my first trip to the Mojave desert in California while on a trip in the USA . I was struck by the beauty of the scene and the surreal desert landscape with the Joshua trees and the abandoned signs and fridge, quite unlike any British landscape or other desert landscapes I had seen before. Essentialy these photographs are landscape images but there is evidence of a human presence with the discarded objects left behind.
Tracey Fahy is a British award winning photographer, based in London, whose work predominately explores issues around the landscape (social, political, urban, suburban and natural environments) including relationships between people and their environment. She is fascinated by the interplay between human civilization and the land. Landscape and the built environment are the result of dynamic processes that bear witness to the achievements, problems and failures of development. The relationship between people and place gives a sense of belonging, of memory and identity. Tracey has exhibited in art galleries and public spaces and held Artist in Residence positions in a number of diverse institutions. She also facilitates photography projects with marginal groups including refugees, victims of torture, individuals with special needs (both mentally and physically), children/young adults with learning and behavioral difficulties, disaffected youth excluded from school, teenage parents and the elderly.
