Artist Statement
Quinn Keaveney hails from Canada and is currently finishing a bachelor degree at the Art Institute of Chicago. For the past three years he has been documenting landscapes and portraits alike. His current work, entirely naturally lit, captures things many of us have seen before but never truly admired, making use of a process called HDR in which captured moments have a wider dynamic range. By changing the dynamic range these photos capture more than a single standard camera ever could, bringing us closer to what our eye’s potential reality is, and in some cases transcends reality and becomes something more. Explorations into contrast of light and depth of field have become recurring aspects in his work and he tells us that conceptually the sheer number of photographs and how we are similarly exposed are what inspires his direction.
