Artist Statement

I was given access to photograph models preparing for the annual Toronto Fashion Week, a premier fashion event held in the city.  The makeup section had these squares for models to stand in, I do not know if it was the consistency of the models to be of certain shoe size but the square seemed to almost fit the particular model’s feet perfectly.   The models will continue texting on phones or read a book while their makeup and hair gets completed.
I was not there to shoot for any specific agenda; these are just some of the particularities I took notice of.

Kenneth Chou is a documentary photographer based in Toronto, Canada.  Although interested in art at a young age, it wasn’t until discovering photography that he had the opportunity to pursue his curiosity for people and life around him.  His most recent work involves documenting the ecological burial movement in North Eastern United States.

Ken’s work has been exhibited in Toronto and published locally and abroad.  He holds a MFA in Documentary Media from Ryerson University and a BFA in Stills Photography.  Ken prefers to exhibit his work in book format and is still a big fan of  traditional analog film.
